This course is called Leading A Difference Maker Culture Using the Three Bucket System. It is a course for elementary administrators to learn step by step ways to coach the teachers in your school how to foster a culture of connection, wellness and learning so that both adults and students are excited to come to school and learn everyday. I know I have talked about the three bucket system before in previous blogs but this course will dive deep into the buckets with exactly how you use them to build a thriving culture. This three bucket system course will show leaders a step by step plan to generate a thriving culture through connection, mindset/wellness, and business/craft. It has lesson plans, modules for leaders to coach, videos, examples, pdfs with guides, meeting templates, connection strategies, wellness tips and strategies for kids, the community and self. The course will help to build a connected culture that generates energy so that leaders can impact the teachers, who inspire the kids, who then become difference makers in the world. I am excited because it has been years in the making and it will help so many people to streamline their leadership and provide clarity for next steps to grow.
The course will start with an introduction that will introduce the three buckets and cast a vision. In module one, we will look at the importance of connection. I will show you how to scaffold a visibility strategy within the classrooms. It will have four phases of support for a leader to provide in order to be able to team teach alongside the teacher as well as coach the teacher to become a leader in order to build capacity for a thriving community of adult learners.
The four keys to building connection will also be explored in order to put you in a place where people will root for you. Process and soul are the pillars of the first bucket. In order to lead with process and soul and infuse it into your culture, you have to have people who are going to also lead in this way. Within this course, I will show you multiple ways that you can build leaders within your school and how you can develop leadership skills within meetings that will flow into staff meetings, grade team meetings, and professional learning communities. I will provide meeting plans, lesson plans, agendas, and time management tools to help you schedule. We will finally get out of the shallow waters and go into the deep waters with the time that we have.
The second bucket will focus on wellness and mindset. I believe with my whole heart that if you approach your business through a wellness lens and carve out time and space where you show and coach people on how to build healthy habits into their life, then everything else will rise. This is because people will see that you value them and not just want to ‘get things done.’ Your community will start to believe in you and the trust will build. The community as a whole will be healthier and happier and therefore will be able to do the best work of their lives because they feel energized through taking care of themselves first so they can pour into others. Who wouldn’t want that in their lives!
Some of the ideas and strategies that we will explore within this module is what types of healthy habits to adopt, ways to work on passions, and how to infuse wellness into each day. Story plays a huge part in growing a thriving culture and so we will look at ways that leaders can produce a story and then tell it. In order to produce the story, a leader has to be a part of it. We will explore how the art of storytelling is a way to set people’s hearts on fire.
The last bucket is the craft/business bucket. Within these lessons we will look at ways administrators can model strategies and structures within staff meetings and professional learning communities in order to walk the walk alongside the teachers. Assessment for learning strategies will become mile markers in leading a school and we will look at ways to provide value to the people. As we move through the course, collective efficacy and the evidence of impact will surface and the lessons focus on intentions to build momentum through an admin/teacher week long workshop called Leader’s Workshop. It contains 8 modules for teachers to choose from. These modules will be curated and co-constructed by the teacher and the administrator and there is a step by step process with how to do that. Within this week long workshop, admin will spend an hour each day team teaching with the teacher using the module that they co-constructed together in order to meet the needs of the teacher and his or her students. There are eight ideas that we will look at for a leader to curate with the teacher. They are assessment for learning, learning support, specialists, reader/writer workshop, math workshop, building leadership capacity, and wellness for adults and kids.
Implementing a structure that will help to calibrate a community will be paramount when it comes to ensuring alignment while still respecting discretionary space. A focus on specific criteria that impacts opportunities to learn as an adult and a student in the most effective way plays a huge role in streamlining and alignment in cultivating culture. Within the lessons, there will be a roadmap and formulas that will help leaders to implement this criteria through modelling this practice themselves. We will also explore ways to ensure that the work is happening when leaders are not around through ways to invite teachers to provide evidence for building capacity rather than accountability.
Feedback and how a leader interacts with teachers is another topic that matters when cultivating a Super School. A Super School is a school where everyone does the best work of their life.
I will also include some special bonus features, such as ways to overcome the bumps in the road, how to schedule in your three buckets, batching sessions, and specific workshop activities to do in meetings. There will also be access to slide decks and pdfs to help every step of the way. There is a power to finding your tribe and so I have also created a facebook live group for leaders to be a part of to collaborate and converse with. I will even be offering some live small group coaching sessions and workshops that will be a part of this course. You will also have access to some scripts and topics for meetings to help you map out your year to ensure that you are providing the most value to your community.
So there you have it! This is the course in a nutshell but it has lit me up and my community. We have a school that we are proud of because we are doing the best work of our lives and we are working collectively to make a difference in our own learning as well as our students. I even mention the obstacles and how we overcame them or pivoted as we all know that this is such hard work and bumps in the road are inevitable.
